| JigZag
In the words of one Canadian journalist; "JIGZAG: Call it the Down Under folk invasion. Canada has fallen in love with the folk-pop sound of Australia's THE WAIFS, and now here's JIGZAG. They are also a young trio comprising two gals and a guy, and have an equally charming style. Traditionally inclined energetic fiddle tunes complement more contemporary material on their new album, 30 Seconds Of Happiness." Jigzag will be appearing at Five Flags on Friday December 5 with Frencham-Smith who will be launching their new album,"Into My Room". For more details check the website at www.jigzag.com |

Frencham Smith
Launch the album Into My Room by Frencham Smith
With her earthy voice and now legendary upright basswomanship, Liz Frencham has emerged as one of Australias most sought-after performers. Frencham recently returned from touring in Canada and Europe with Jigzag, a trio developing a reputation on the international festival circuit for their high energy acoustic pop. Fred Smith has also just returned to Australia, in his case from peace monitoring work on Bougainville, PNG, where he is something of a celebrity having performed extensively in villages around the island and hosted a weekly Saturday Night Party program on Radio Bougainville. In 2002 Fred returned from the Solomons to record the award winning Bagarap Empires CD. The album has won the SreenSound Australia award for Best New Release of 2002, as well as an unusual distribution arrangement with Community Aid Abroad. The gravity of the Bagarap Empires album surprised many since Smiths earlier work focused on political comedy. The writing on Into My Room marks another departure for him. The songs were written for a female vocalist and reflect more personal and less political perspectives. It is an album of tender ballads, with heartfelt delivery from Liz Frencham. After writing the songs for Into My Room, Smith went looking for the right girl to work with. I saw Liz performing I thought to myself here is the real thing. When she sang, people were moved. Its a rare gift, a quality of honesty I guess. Frencham was attracted to the quality of the songwriting: Although I was flat out at the time, I took the project on because of the songs-great melodies and stories that felt like my own- I just had to do it.
